Comprehensive Review Task Group Shares Broad Directions

The Comprehensive Review Task Group first gathered two years ago “to examine the comprehensive vision and circumstances of The United Church of Canada and develop a report and recommendations for the 42nd General Council 2015 that will best enable the church to live faithfully in God’s world at this time in the church’s life.” We were told everything was on the table, but little did we know just how large the table would turn out to be.

Moderator Reflects on Euthanasia and Assisted Suicide

Toronto: On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, the Supreme Court of Canada will once again grapple with the life and death question of euthanasia and assisted suicide. The court is sitting to hear an appeal by the British Columbia Civil Liberties Association (BCCLA) in the Carter v. Canada case. The BCCLA is challenging the laws that criminalize doctors for helping competent, seriously ill individuals who wish to hasten death.

Harvest & Holly Lunch & Bazaar – Saturday, November 8th 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Community Centre in Aberfoyle with lots of free parking.  Meet a friend for lunch.  Stock up on baking, preserves, deli, plants, knitting & crafts for yourself or early Christmas presents.  Gramma’s Attic will return with interesting gently used items.  Event sponsored by Mount Carmel-Zion United Church. Moderator Writes to Prime Minister about Israel and Gaza

Toronto: In a letter to Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Moderator of The United Church of Canada, the Right Rev. Gary Paterson, has called on the Prime Minister “to do all that you can to convince the governments of both Israel and Gaza to stop the violence.”
