JGER JOURNAL

Greetings- Hope all are well.

Here are a few items for your consideration.

Hello Bruce, I'm forwarding you an item that may be of interest to you and other members of your congregation. I have personally been involved with a group, KWATC (Kitchener Waterloo Anti-Torture Coalition) that is concerned about the possibility that Canada has been complicit in the torture of a number of (particularly Afghani) detainees. As a follower of the One who taught us to 'love our enemies', the possibility that our country may be involved in any way with treating war prisoners in a way that violates internationally recognized agreements, is very troubling. I have attached a poster if you would like to utilize it. A public rally, primarily for information purposes, will be held on March 13, 2010 at The Conrad Grebel Great Hall (University of Waterloo) from 2:00pm to 4:00pm. Speakers include:
Andrew Thompson
Balsillie School of International Affairs
Amir Attaran
Canada Research Chair in Law, Population Health and Global Development Policy
Ezat Mossallanejad
Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture
Michael Byers
Canadian Research Chair in International Law and Politics
Thanks
ST
(I'm sorry I was unable to save and send the poster, but the info above is correct - bruce)

From this week's Scripture in Luke:
13:7 So he said to the gardener, 'See here! For three years I have come looking for fruit on this fig tree, and still I find none. Cut it down! Why should it be wasting the soil?'
13:8 He replied, 'Sir, let it alone for one more year, until I dig around it and put manure on it.
13:9 If it bears fruit next year, well and good; but if not, you can cut it down.'"
