Toronto: Mardi Tindal, the Moderator of Canada's largest Protestant denomination, The United Church of Canada, today issued an open letter to Canadians calling on them to consider climate change a crisis of conscience.

In the letter Tindal urges Canadians "to choose hope and action over despair and paralysis" in addressing what she calls "one of the most urgent moral challenges in human history."

General Secretary's Weekly Letter for January 15, 2010

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

Happy New Year.  or Сновым годом as they say in Russia , where I welcomed the new year with my Siberian friends, on an evening complete with fireworks, ice sculptures, and reindeer, as well as (of course) lots of eating.  I went to Russia for New Year’s, after celebrating Christmas at home in Elgin County, attending two wonderful Christmas eve services, and of course sharing in good meals with family.
